Simple Exercise: Getting Detailed
Alright. In this debut post here in the driveway, let’s spend about 15 minutes on focus. When we write, it’s tempting to paint with broad strokes if we aren’t focusing up on the details. Sure you can, for example, write that a man walked down the street then turned the corner but what about the guy makes us care?
Let’s try this — pick up something near you. Ok, it may just be a piece of lint but go ahead and peer into that fluff of gray matter and fuzzy dust bunnies. By the way, is it even gray? I made an assumption. Hell it could be from your pink comfy sweater you got for a steal on the Nordstrom rack!
Go ahead and start writing what you see, feel, or even smell from the object. Why is it there? What’s it’s purpose? Write it down and it didn’t have to be perfect. If you’re feeling bold, post yours in the comments. Check back later and maybe I’ll post mine.
